Our Story

We'll try to sum this up. David Grow had been a successful L.A. songwriter and music producer, (several hit songs and one Grammy nomination to his credit), when, apparently fueled by road weariness and a good bottle of Veuve Clicquot, he decided to start an advertising music house named for his dog. Apparently inflicted with insanity, he gambled his entire savings and converted his house into a recording studio and office but months later Howling Music was hanging by a thread.

Then seemingly out of nowhere, bam! They landed a big job. Not just any job, this was Nike. Word got around and suddenly they were in business. Not long after, David was recording in Nashville when he realized Nashville probably had more top-tier musicians than any place on Earth. So, a relocation to Music City ensued.

Flash forward to 2018. David was leading an ad music panel at an industry conference in L.A. when he met composer extraordinaire Ryan Claus. David was blown away with Ryan's work and soon offered him a composer job with the company but Ryan had other ideas. To say nothing of his status as a musical wunderkind, Ryan had also been a mountain climber, world traveller, pro-level surfer, graphic designer and spiritual wayfarer. But he had never been a business partner and who better to join forces with than David? The two clicked musically and personally and the rest is history. They now have a tight but effective composer and producer corps who are committed to doing their best work, making the world a better place through music and giving back. That's the short version.

The long version might include a parade of hard-to-believe client lists and achievements which most people don't have time for. Instead, we're going to reserve the rest of this page for deep breathing tips which we know will be of much greater use to anyone who actually works in advertising.
