Welcome, Composers!

Thanks for taking the time to read our onboarding letter. As stated, we’d love to find creative solutions to our needs that we hope will benefit you and your career as a composer.

Below you'll find some FAQs and more info about Howling Music.

Library Briefs FAQs

  • While you (and your co-writers) will always retain 100% of the writer's share, we cannot offer monetary compensation for the master and publisher's share of the publishing for library tracks. However, your track will be pitched and plugged into our global distribution network, providing an opportunity for multiple placements. To clarify, we are not offering sync splits for these tracks; all earnings will come solely from writer’s royalties collected by your PRO.

  • A client search happens when we do not have music our clients are looking for, but we still need to send something quickly. Client searches are aimed at immediate needs.

A library brief is created because we constantly need new music to pitch to our clients and distribution partners. These album concepts are strategically crafted in anticipation of what our clients and the market needs.

  • If chosen, we will be in touch and request any final revisions/changes if necessary. Once signed off, we will need final audio assets like stems and 30 second versions. Howling Music will acquire the master and publishers share once the contract is signed.

  • You retain all rights to your tracks unless we specifically communicate with you about wanting to exclusively represent it .

  • Yes! Please only send wav files preferably at 24 bit, 48kHz. Also, it is imperative that you do not register your track with your PRO or upload it anywhere. As a music publisher, Howling Music would handle all the admin!

  • Samples and loops are a prominent part in many production styles, but please refrain from using loops from Splice or other sharing communities. Loops can not only jeopardize royalties, but they also tend to scare away clients. If any loops or samples are used, please be sure to process them in such a way that they are no longer identifiable.

  • Library briefs have very specific instructions about uploading and due dates. We try to keep a tight production schedule, so you will know if your track has been picked generally within a week of the submission deadline.

  • We have built a vehicle to get music on National TV via commercial, show or film. Your music will be submitted to our 20+ partners around the world, including BMG Latin America (full list of partners below). You are entitled to all the writers performance royalties, which can be substantial on the right placement. We aim to help composers hone their skills and make music that is truly syncable.

Client Searches FAQs

  • If you opt in to receive client search briefs via our form, you will be added to our composer roster and begin to receive briefs via email as they come through.

  • You are welcome to submit anything that you own or that you represent with full authorization to submit. Also, it is imperative that you do not register your track with your PRO or upload it anywhere. As a music publisher, Howling Music would handle all the admin!

  • If your track wins, we pay you a win fee ($500-$5000 range) in exchange for the master and publishers share. You’ll receive a composer agreement and we will need stems and other deliverables for it to be added to our library.

  • You retain all rights to your tracks unless we specifically communicate with you about wanting to exclusively represent it .

  • While we can’t respond to all submissions, we will email or call you notifying you if your track won. Please note, our clients are busy and it can be a few days or a week before we hear any feedback regarding our submission.

  • We will not be able to offer updates to all submitted tracks, but if you hear nothing from us, then you can assume your track did not win and you still retain all rights to your track(s).

The Long Game

Howling Music is a boutique music library with global distribution and roots planted firmly in the music for advertising space. While we continue to grow into other markets, we hope to partner with composers and provide an open door to opportunities that wouldn't otherwise be accessible. While many composers may have already established more profitable outlets for their music, Howling intends to open a pathway to a real music library that sees opportunities for placing music on a daily basis. Howling can bring you value through curated briefs, honest feedback, and real community with our composers. Because ultimately, we believe we are in this together; our success is your success. It will only be in our best interest to help you as a composer improve.

It should be noted that, as with any sync music/production music endeavor, it's a long game. Patience is paramount! Even if we accept a library track from you and it gets placed immediately, it will take a year at least for royalty money to make its way to you.
